We are a champion for New Zealand startups, working to celebrate and uplift the founders of today and inspire the founders of tomorrow.

About you:

We’re searching for a creative, innovative, passionate, energetic and curious editor to help lead and curate the must-know info, news and insights for NZ’s startup scene. If you’re a brilliant storyteller; seasoned content creator, crafter and curator; take an interest in the startup scene; are kind, curious and non-judgemental; champion good people; and thrive in fast-paced, dynamic and startup environments, we want to hear from you.

What the role involves:

  • Responsibility for curating fresh, relevant and informative content for Caffeine across a range of multimedia platforms [video, short and long-form articles, podcasts, events, interviews, audio, photos etc]
  • Leading the creation, curation, innovation and commentary for our hugely popular ‘daily shot’ newsletter [ideally you’re keen to share a voice/POV]
  • Committing an almost obsessive eye to all key stats and analytics to identify trends, and look for gaps and opportunities to optimise content reach and engagement
  • Leading the ideation and curation of new stories, series, features, concepts, themes and formats to retain existing audience, grow new audiences, and increase levels of engagement and time spent on our platforms
  • Driving and championing innovation and creativity across everything we do
  • Directing the timing of new content creation including knowing when and how to resurface previous work at relevant times
  • Managing all full-time journalists and part-time contributors including unearthing new additions as and when needed to retain the highest quality creator pool
  • Leading weekly editorial planning sessions and creation of supporting planning tools [e.g. editorial calendar, workflows, timelines etc]
  • Guiding our social media team on key angles for social post engagement
  • A POV and direction on best layout and integration of all our tech platforms a  nd ecosystem to ensure our UX is world-class
  • Keeping keen tabs on best practice, new tools and interesting learnings from other strong platforms in and outside our community and industry
  • Being a keen and active participant in the NZ start-up community with a consistent eye on what’s happening to keep us current with news, opportunities and key contacts
  • Attending unbelievable events with some of the most fascinating and inspiring people you’re ever likely to meet [trust us!]
  • Being an approachable, trustworthy and likeable go-to within the community – it’s small and we look after each other

Experience & skills you need:

  • Ideally a qualification in journalism, media, marketing or related industry/field
  • 5+ years experience in a senior editorial role
  • Strong interest and knowledge in startups, business and innovation
  • Outstanding writing, editing, curation, and storytelling skills
  • You’re not afraid to make quick decisions based on best inputs and enforce them
  • Energetic, curious, dynamic and innovative approach to your work
  • Ability to work independently and lead a team
  • Strong research skills and a deeply [almost obsessive] attention to detail
  • Able to meet deadlines, communicate effectively and manage multiple projects simultaneously 
  • A drive to try new things, make them happen [progress not perfection], and either fail fast or keep iterating and innovating 
  • Proficiency in content management software and analytics, google, SEO, social media and web platforms and/or an ability to pick up new tools efficiently including an interest in AI
  • Grit, flexibility and resilience to withstand fast-changing environments
  • You find it easy and interesting to meet and connect with a wide range of new people
